Jessica Day 4

Hello again, just wanted to keep everyone up to date on Jessica. My plan was to go back to work this morning, which I did. However, after about two hours of wondering what was going on at the hospital, I decided to leave work and visit her. My boss was all for it and was wondering why I came to work in the first place. I'm lucky to work at a place like that.

When I arrived at the hospital, Jessica was down to 22% oxygen which is almost the same as regular air. She still has to have positive pressure to keep her lungs inflated and that was at a 5. We need to get her down to a 3 in order to take the horrible CPAP device off of her face. The doctors officially diagnosed her with immature lungs and not some other condition like pneumonia. Her lung X-rays look cloudy instead of clear like mature lungs and the doc said it takes time to get those lungs strong enough to function on their own. The good news is she no longer has to take any medicine and she finished up her supplemental nutrition because she has adjusted so well to Lexi's milk. She gets fed every three hours and it's like she has a built in timer because she is always cranky at about the 2.5 hour mark. As soon as the milk starts flowing, she calms down and falls asleep. I "helped" change one of her dirty diapers today and everytime we wiped her bottom, she would squeeze out a little more poop. It turned into quite the mess and we had to change her blanket twice.

The doctors feel Jessica can handle mild stimulation now and are letting us to snuggle with her more. Lexi felt so bad about me missing the birth that she wanted me to get the opportunity to hold Jessica while she recieved her milk. Not to brag or anything, but her oxygen saturation level went to 100% and her breathing and heartrate were perfect as I held her and she zonked out. Both my arms went to sleep, but I didn't care.

The best part of the day

These pictures brought tears to my eyes! I LOVE reading your blogs, Joe, and knowing exactly what is going on with my precious Jessybean. You are doing such an awesome job! And Lexi, I know you are probably a little surprised at what a full time job nursing is, I am so proud of you! Thank you Bunky and Lex for making it easier to be so far away... I know Jess's Mommy and Daddy would do anything in the world for her.

Yeah, I'd say it is nice working at a place where you're not expected to work. Just look busy.

Can't wait to see if this comment is approved!
